Say NO to aging signs with Juvederm Voluma!

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is a colorless and smooth Hyaluronic Acid (HA) gel, containing a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to reduce injection discomfort during the procedure.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body, and the role of HA in the body is to deliver nutrients within the skin and help skin retain its natural softness and moisture.

What is it used for?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is designated for deep subcutaneous injection for cheek augmentation to improve age-related volume deficit in the mid-face in adults over the age of 21.  As we age, the cheek area loses its youthful shape and flattens out in an unflattering manner.  The skin around the cheek area may begin to sag and sings of aging begin to appear.

What does it do?

It is designed to temporarily reverse these signs of aging by lifting the skin around the cheek area.  It adds volume to the cheeks around the cheekbone area and results in a smoother shape and gives the face a more youthful appearance.

How is the procedure?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is delivered by injection into the cheeks and surrounding areas on the face using a small needle to correct the volume and fullness of the cheek.  Lidocaine mixed with HA helps to improve the patient’s comfort during the injection.  JUVÉDERM VOLUMA produces long-lasting results that do not fail to please.

Before the procedure

Before the injection procedure, you will be asked about your medical history as well as your treatment goals.  Your personal evaluation will determine whether you are an appropriate candidate to get this treatment, and you will be consulted regarding what to expect during and after treatment, including possible side effects.  Your skin around the treatment area will be examined by DermaFashion nurses and photos will be taken to compare the before/after look.  Topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area prior to the treatment, the treatment area will be cleansed and then prepared with alcohol or other antiseptic.

During the Procedure

After the first injection into the cheek, your nurse will wait a few seconds to allow the lidocaine to take effect before moving forward with the rest of the treatment. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC gel will be injected in small amounts over the treatment area until the desired aesthetic outcome is achieved.  Your nurse may massage the treatment area gently to assure that the product is evenly distributed.  An ice pack will be applied for a brief period following treatment to minimize swelling and reduce pain.

After the treatment

Your nurse will also tell you what to expect following treatment with JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel.  Within the first 24 hours, you should minimize strenuous exercise and exposure to extensive sun or heat.  Exposure to any of the above may increase temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site.  If there is swelling, you may place an ice pack over the swollen area.

Does it hurt?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the procedure.  Study shows immediately after injection, the rated injection pain on average is around 3, where 0 is no pain and 10 is worst pain imaginable.   JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel contains lidocaine to reduce injection-site pain and topical numbing will also be provided.

When can I expect to see the result?

Although the changes will be visible right after the procedure, but ultimate results will be visible about 4 weeks after the treatment.

How long does it last?

While individual results may vary, in the clinical study, the results lasted up to 2 years in a majority of subjects treated with JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC.  After this, repeat injections are usually needed to maintain your desired result.

What are the alternative treatments?

Alternative treatments that are available to you to correct lost facial volume include surgical implants or injections of your own fat.  You may discuss these treatment options with your doctor.
